This book is intended for boys 3-8. This is an excellent book for those young children that are just on the verge of reading. You can't go wrong with an 'Eric Carle' book! The book has a wonderful flow: Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. With plenty of re-reads, the child will soon be reading this one independently and joyfully. Remember, reading begins with memory and this is a great starting book that easily motivates.

Follow Up Activities

See how many things the child remembers Brown Bear seeing in this book. Print the things down and have the children put the things Brown Bear saw in alphabetized order.

Play a similar game in the classroom/home - Jamie, Jamie what do you see?

Have the child create their own read aloud book based on this pattern.
