When I had questions about Floortime, a sort of Freudian approach to early intervention, Dr. Peggy Whitby, the director of the University of Nevada Las Vegas Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders steered me to the National Autism Project, a research effort from the National Autism Center. The center sponsored a study that reviewed research for evidence based autism therapies.
I found the report (The National Standards Report) especially helpful and will keep my copy handy. I share a synopsis of its contents here, hoping that it will be a helpful resource for you as well. They lay out criteria for assessing research on different autism treatments, and then review hundreds of articles to help us better understand research that has been proved in peer reviewed research to be effective. I hope you will find it as helpful as I have.
