Figurative vs. literal speech.

Although taking things literally is something we've all been guilty of, our learning disabled students will often struggle more than most with figurative language. So, what can you do? Teach the difference between the two! There, I 'let the cat out of the bag'. And....I'd 'give my right arm' to help students understand figurative speech. However, 'In a nustshell', I'm going to 'pass the buck' to you.

I think you get my point. Have some fun with figurative speech by brainstorming a list of these sayings and get your students to put forward their best attempts at determining meaning. More here.
