Definition: ASL is a visual-spatial language that is used by the Deaf community in the United States and English-speaking parts of Canada. ASL involves the use of hands, gestures, facial and lip-mouth movements. It is the native language of many Deaf men, women and children as well as children with parent(s) who are deaf and use ASL.
