This is a 'read it yourself book' is suitable for 3-7 year olds. Once you've read this a few times to your reluctant reader, he'll soon be motivated to read it by himself. Although, initially he'll be reading it from memory, it won't be long before he'll be picking out the words in isolation with a few cues and prompts. This is a predictable pattern book that focuses on a limited vocabulary in the fashion of 'Green dogs, yellow dogs, big dogs, little dogs. Dogs who prefer cars, dogs who favor skis.

Follow Up Activities

This book is well suited to a word study. Take the words in this book and print them on individual cards. Focus on having the child put them in the order of the book. Eventually, get him to select the cards he can read. The more the book is read, the more he'll be able to read the individual cards.
