Here's my favorite list of classroom management and discipline text resources.

1. Assertive Discipline for the Classroom: Lee Cantor

Positive Behavior Management for Today's Classroom. Assertive Discipline is a direct and positive approach to make it possible for the teacher to teach and the students to learn. It is based on 9 key principles. You can't go wrong with Cantor's method which are taken from very successful teachers.

2. Positive Discipline - A Teachers A to Z Guide - Great for Parents Too!

This is one of the best books I've read for both parents and teachers. You'll find lots of concrete, easy to implement strategies that really work! You'll see in a very short time how these strategies move rebellious behavior into acceptable behavior. A must have!

3. Classroom Discipline Problem Solver

This is another one of my favorites. It's practical and gives you hundreds of tested techniques and guidelines for maintaining control and order in the classroom. You'll find techniques and guidelines for dealing with 50 types of discipline problems and you'll learn how to keep students on task. Many of the teachers I talked to found this resource to be one of their 'keepers'!

4. Got Discipline

I find this book to be aimed at students with ADD or ADHD. Although the practical tried and true strategies will work with all students with behavioral issues. A good read with great advice.

5. Teacher-Tested Classroom Management Strategies

You'll find over 100 teacher-tested classroom management strategies for K-12 classrooms, including addressing management problems such as: absenteeism, disruptive behavior, tardiness, lack of motivation, and short attention spans. A valuable resource!

6. You Have to Go To School - You're the Teacher!

250 Classroom Management Strategies to Make Your Job Easier and More Fun. I loved this book, I still refer to it as a reference from time to time. Whether you're experienced or new in the field, you'll definitely want to implement the many great suggestions here. Your classroom will be a better place!
