Once problem behaviors have been identified and named, data is collected to evaluate the extent, the setting and the purpose of a problem behavior.

The Functional Behavior Analysis ends with the most important step, analyzing the data and deciding what reinforces the problem behavior, so you can chose a replacement and reinforce that in the same way.

A BIP or Behavior Intervention Plan, describes how teachers, special educators and other staff will help a child eliminate problem behavior. A BIP is required in an IEP if it is determined in the Special Considerations Section that behavior inhibits academic achievement.

Once the data is collected, the FBA is written, antecedent, behavior and consequence are identified, it's time to write the Behavior Intervention Plan.

A behavior contract is a useful tool for focusing a child on replacing inappropriate behavior with appropriate behavior, and can either pre-empt a Behavior Improvement Plan, or be part of a BIP

Behavioral goals which accompany a Functional Behavior Analysis and a Behavior Improvement Plan are part of an IEP for students whose behavior impedes their academic and social success.
