I'm writing this from Circus, Circus--a 70's casino with cheap but clean rooms. I flew out for four days to check out the lay of the land and check in with Clark County Schools. I got to talk to Darlene in the human resources department from the lobby (this was weird, I have to admit. When I get a job I'm going to stop by in November when things have kind of slowed down and actually MEET her.) Good news! I am now officially on the hire list, and Darlene informed me that I have good scores (whatever that means. I guess the Magna cum Laude was good for something.)
Well, one step closer. It does leave me wondering what the rest of you are dealing with. Arizona? I just read What's the Matter with Arizona in the July issue of Harper's. It seems that their illegal immigrant legislation is just the tip of the iceberg. They sold the state capital to help cash flow, and they are leasing it back from the new owners!! They keep adding tax cuts while they are whistling around a billion dollar revenue shortfall. Passing a resolution to post the ten commandments in the state capital during a senate budget committee meeting. Now there's a place I wouldn't want to be teaching. So, if you use my article Recruiters Looking for Special Education Teachers, you might want to ignore the Arizona link--according to the author, Ken Silversteen, it looks like the crazy is going to be hanging around in Arizona for a long time.
So, let me know what's going on with your job hunt, and I'll keep you abreast of what is happening in mine.
