Putting Self Esteem First

Wednesday April 2, 2008
Yesterday I was watching a young student with special education needs try out for a sports team. This particular student has a significant learning and behavioral disability. However, his self esteem is often his biggest obstacle. His negativity often results in missed learning opportunities. However, on this day, he put forth a tremendous effort and short listed for the team. The coach gave the typical talk that academic efforts and overall achievement must not suffer now that they were on the team. The student eagerly accepted the contract and displayed much enthusiasm, more so than what I've seen in a while.

There's much to be said for improved self-esteem and if it is in place, the improved academic performance will follow. This article will provide you with some tips on how to improve a child's self esteem.
