I read the article. It sounds awful for parents looking for special education services for their children. However, the part of the article in which autism was described I found lacking. They talked about Asperger’s syndrome, and then other conditions that may have autistic tendencies, but didn’t address the kind of autism many kids have — a mixture of autism and mental retardation that will keep most of them from living on their own as adults.

It sounded like most kids with autism could go on to live almost normal life with training — and for many kids, this just isn’t the case. They will all learn and grow — but many will never function independently.
